WIP - Popeye Pose

have been working on the pose the last few days, still got a lot of work to do but getting closer to a final result.

Need to clean up a lot and start adding finer detail, also he is in need of belt loops which i will model :P

I have also added some little details; the tobacco pouch, matchsticks, and lanyard (used to hang the sailors knife, also supposed to be under the collar which i must fix)

Here is a test of the pose in the environment for the final image!

WIP_Popeye_Pose and Proportions

I've just been mucking around with some different ideas to get proportions of Popeye somewhat accurate and faithful to the concept so i found some character sheets:

I started with a 7 head ratio (5.4 feet) but based of the character sheets he should be around 6.5 heads which is around 4.9 feet (with an average 9 inch head size).

In the image bellow shows my Popeye line up where i tried to get what i felt was the right proportions all are 7 heads expect model 4 and 5 where i tried actually shorting him to 4.9 feet  (4 with shorter legs 5 without) but i felt this way too short. 7 heads seems like the right size as he is squatting so at full stretch i would imagine he could gain half a head :P. I like 7 and 8 (basically the same except 7 is squatting) and the idea of instead of shorting the legs I’ll have his pants riding lower on him.

Also here’s a print screen from the first Popeye cartoon (movie not book), its the his first shot in the short so i though it would be a fitting setting and pose for my "realistic Popeye"

WIP_Realistic Popeye

This is my newest project i seen the Tin tin movie and was automatically inspired to create a version of Popeye in the similar style that the characters where brought to life in this movie Here’s my concept and reference of Popeye so far:

I’ve been to keep all the key features exaggerated i.e. the forearms, chin, big hand/feet etc. Also here’s some of my current progress with blocking and developing the characters form:

CW Change Name! now nxe4

Decided i didn’t like the chess warfare name so decided to name it using chess notion with the move knight captures e4 (the square I’m going to say my pawn unit is on) "nxe4"

It's still a work in progress not quiet happy with it yet...

Also got a quick render/sketch using proxy’s to decide on layout and what needs to be done.

New Project Chess Warfare

I thought it would be a cool idea to play around with the concept for an image of modern chess. What a "realistic" type interpretation would look like.

Heres my concepts:

WIP Homegrown Hero Turntable Playblast

I re-playblasted the turntable with some different shot angles to provide a better look at the topography, details and what not. And also uploaded it in HD (720p) so its easy to see aswell.

plus you might have to click on it and go to the vimeo website to view in HD.

Enviroment, Matte New (Version 2)

I wasn't happy with my last attempt at this so i decided to revamp it and add a few more photos i got from my trip to tazzy, and re-compose this shot so its shows off my work abit more and looks nicer. I did like my matte of the backgound so i kept that.

Also Heres som Pics of the just the environment (without Colour Adjustment), and environment and a quick lighting set up

New Modi Playblast (Homegrown Hero)

This is something I’ve been working on for a few weeks; the original plan for the Modi story at uni was to have him be a crazy man. So using this concept i decided to create a turnaround of the character in a deranged state where he believes himself to be a Norse semi-god, even going to the extreme state of fabricating his attire and ship out of everyday objects. I'm thinking of call this ether Home-grown Hero, Homeless Hero.

Camer Match Final

Finally got round to finishing this project off, got a bit distracted over the Christmas break.
I think I might make some minor changes later down the track, with some fresh eyes but at the moment this is the finish product.

new Modi

I decided to change the model of my main character and try to achieve a more realistic result.

From this original version:

ModiCharacter Turntable(old) from Tim Murphy on Vimeo.

To this is the emended version:

I tried making his head smaller and correcting all the proportions, his body ending up being an average 7 and a half heads high. I don’t know if I’ll use the hair and beard, I’m having a bit of trouble connecting them and might not have enough time.
